I don' t want
him to go.
b. Je ne pense pas qu' il ait
raison. I
don' t think (that) he' s right.
·
La proposition infinitive
Le 2° verbe est à l' infinitif. Le 2° sujet quand c' est un pronom est à la forme du complément : me, you, him, her, it, us, you, them
I don' t want him to go
Seulement quelques verbes acceptent la proposition infinitive : to ask, to expect, to order, to tell, to
prefer, to want
He asked her to do it at
once. Il lui a demandé de le
faire tout de suite..
·
Les subordonnées en THAT
I don' t think (that) he'
s right.
On trouve les subordonnées en THAT après :
- les verbes exprimant un savoir, une opinion : to believe, to know, to suppose, to think
-les verbes servant à rapporter des paroles : to say, to tell
ATTENTION : TO TELL a deux sens :
He told me to go.
He told me that it was too late.
He said that it was too late. Il a dit qu' il était trop tard. He told me that it was too late. Il m' a dit qu' il était trop tard.
·
Mots de liaison dans les
subordonnées
IF (SI)
If you ask him, he' ll do it.
If you asked him, he would do it.
If you had asked him, he
would have done it. Si tu le lui
avait demandé, il l' aurait fait.
had asked : pluperfect modal à
irréel du passé
WHEN (QUAND) et AS
I' ll tell him when he comes. Je le lui dirai lorsqu' il viendra.
I' ll do it as soon as he has finished.
I' ll do it before she comes. Je le ferai avant qu' elle arrive.
AFTER (APRES)
He left immediately after having his meal. Il est parti immédiatement après avoir mangé.
He left immediately after arriving. Il est parti immédiatement après être arrivé.
BECAUSE (PARCE
QUE)
La subordonnée en BECAUSE exprime la cause. La question correspondante est introduite par WHY.
Why did you sell the car ? I sold it because it was too old. Pourquoi as-tu vendu la voiture. Parce qu' elle était trop vieille.
TO / IN ORDER TO /
SO AS TO (POUR / DANS LE BUT DE)
La subordonnée en IN ORDER TO exprime le but. Le verbe est à l' infinitif. On utilise WHAT ... FOR dans la question.
What did you sell
the car for? I sold it in order to buy a new one.
Dans quel but as-tu vendu ta voiture ? Pour en acheter une neuve.
